Établissements René HerbstChaise sandows (1928), René Herbst
René Herbst (1891-1982) was one of the first designers in France to experiment with tubular steel for furniture. For his most iconic designs Herbst also used elastic rubber stretcher belts (sandow in French), which were known from expanders. Accordingly, Herbst was one of the first to introduce the motif of the objet trouvé into furniture design. He founded Établissements René Herbst to produce the pieces he designed.
