Raphaël

Established 1793

Founded in 1793 and operated and owned by the Max Sauer family since 1859, Raphaël is the oldest fine art brush maker in Europe. The original workshop was located in Paris, but relocated to Saint-Brieuc, Brittany in 1925.

Raphaël imports the finest hairs and bristles from all over the world and hand sorts them to ensure the highest quality. Following the time honored tradition of master and apprentice, Raphaël’s highly skilled craftswomen make every brush Raphael by hand. All Raphaël brushes are double-set or glued into the base and only the finest quality ferrules are used. Today, the company is still owned by the Sauer family.
