Sweatshirt (hooded)

Established 1919

Founded in 1919, Champion is an American clothing manufacturer, specialized in sportswear. In the 1930s Champion produced the first hooded sweatshirt, which was marketed to laborers working in freezing temperatures in upstate New York. It included a muff sewn onto the lower front, which still is there today, and a drawstring to adjust the hood opening.

Adopted by Hip hop culture in New York City, the hoodie became popular in the 1970s and gained its iconic status when it appeared in the blockbuster movie ‘Rocky’.
