Kitchen timer

Minitimer (1971), Richard Sapper

Founded in 1946 by Paul Terraillon, Terraillon is a producer of household goods, specialized in kitchen scales and kitchen timers. In 1969 Terraillon commissioned the talented designers Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper to design a new range of household goods.

Designed in 1971 by Richard Sapper, the iconic MiniTimer kitchen timer is simply a work of genius. There is no handle, no unnecessary detail, no pretend-ergonomics and the timer is totally self-explanatory. When the time is up, the timer rings like a very old telephone. The Minitimer is part of the permanent collection of MoMA.
