Established 1893

Kokichi Mikimoto was the first in the world to successfully culture a pearl in 1893 and started the pearl industry with the establishment of his luxury pearl company Mikimoto. In 1913, Mikimoto opened a store in London, soon to be followed by stores in New York, Paris, and other major cities.
