Sunglasses (II)

Persol

Established 1917

Founded in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, Persol is a luxury eyewear manufacturer, specialized in the production of sunglasses. Persol, which means ‘for the sun’ in Italian, was the first to incorporate the Meflecto system. This flexible system allowed the sunglasses to adapt to the face, and heavily influenced the production of sunglasses in general. Persol is currently owned by the Luxottica group.

The most iconic frames are the 649 and the 714 (the foldable version of the 649 as worn by Steve McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair).

Why on Wikiconic?
Heritage, design.
