Deere & Company
Established 1836Founded in 1836 by John Deere as repair shop and manufacturer of small tools, John Deere today manufactures agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery, and lawn care equipment. In 1918, John Deere made the decision to extend his product line by purchasing the builder of the Waterloo Boy tractor. Subsequently tractors became John Deere’s main product line.
Produced from 1934 to 1952, the John Deere A is one of the most iconic tractors ever produced. In 1938, Henry Dreyfuss – arguably one of the most influential industrial designers in America – was approached by John Deere to give its best selling tractors, the Model A and Model B, a modern facelift.
