S.C.I.P.
Established 1850Founded in 1850 in Thiers, the capital for traditional fine cutlery in central France, SCIP is a manufacturer of cutlery and wine accessories. Their most iconic product is the Cartailler Deluc sommelier knife, used by sommeliers and wine lovers alike.
The corkscrew is a difficult category when in search of a real icon. For example, the waiters friend is a similar instrument as the Cartaillier, but there is not one manufacturer that really stands out. Furthermore, in recent years a lot of innovations have taken place. The most noteworthy being the Pulltaps, which uses the same mechanism as the Cartaillier or the waiters friend, but uses a two-step lever. This is a technical improvement and has some iconic value.
