S 285 (1935), Marcel Breuer

Designed in 1935 by Marcel Breuer, the tubular steel S285 desk combines art and technology into a formal unity. The tubular steel designs of the 1920s and 1930s by Mart Stam, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer are seen as revolutionary achievements in the history of furniture design. The simple forms expressed a new attitude in everyday culture, known as ‘New Objectivity’. Thonet is regarded the world’s largest producer of these tubular steel furniture designs, which are considered timeless today.
