Burgon & Ball
Established 1730Founded in Sheffield in 1730, Burgon & Ball is a manufacturer of shears, scissors and knives. In the 19th century the company patented a design for the iconic shearing shears (as pictured above), which are still in production today. Although by 1920 Burgeon & Ball diversified into garden tools and are now selling more garden tools than sheep shears, there is still a market for hand sheep shearas. The company is now the only British manufacturer.
Burgon & Ball tools are the sharpest in the shed. The secret behind this lies with the hardness of the metal – all Burgon & Ball edge tools are made from high-carbon steel, heat treated to the optimum hardness for that tool. The patented double hollow grind gives the finest cutting edge with minimum metal removal requirement when re-sharpening. In the garden tool category, there are more iconic players due to innovation, but you’re well off buying a Burgon & Ball trimming shear for your garden.
