Christy UK

Established 1850

Founded in 1850 by Henry Christy, Christy is the manufacturer of the finest towels in the world. In the late 1840s, Christy returned from a trip to Turkey, where he visited some of the most exotic baths in the world. From one these baths Christy procured a Turkish towel made of a soft pile fabric. Back in the UK, Christy managed to produce the fabric mechanically, creating the first towels seen in the Western World. They were introduced at the great Exhibition in 1851 and a set was subsequently sent to Queen Victoria who immediately ordered more.
