De Waard
Established 1948Founded in 1948 by Machiel de Waard, De Waard is the manufacturer of the most iconic tent, the Albatross. Machiel de Waard, a sailmaker for the Royal Dutch Navy, wanted to develop a tent that could face the hardest winds, yet still offer plenty of room to fit a whole family. In the 1950s he came up with the now iconic Albatross. The typical shape of the pyramid tent is based on a typical Dutch farmhouse, a ‘stolp’. Also, the Albatross was the first tent equipped with fixed waterproof flooring.
