Weber-Stephen Products
Established 1893Founded in 1893 as Weber Brothers Metal Works, Weber-Stephen Products is the manufacturer of the most iconic outdoor barbecue grill. In 1952 George Stephen was working at Weber, manufacturing marine buoys. He used two sheet metal half-spheres, normally used as parts of buoys, to improve the brazier he had been using to cook with at home. ‘George’s Barbecue Kettle’ was born.
The grill was an instant success and Stephen formed the barbecue division of the Weber Brothers factory. In the late 1950s, Stephen bought out the Weber Brothers factory and became the sole owner, devoting all his professional time to manufacture and sell the Weber kettle. Soon thereafter, Stephen changed the company’s name to Weber-Stephen Products Co.
