Smith's Rosebud Salve (1892)Founded in 1895 by George F. Smith, the Rosebud Perfume Company began in a small drugstore in Woodsboro, Maryland. Dr. Smith formulated a product known as ‘Smith’s Rosebud Salve’ that could be used for various minor skin irritations. Realizing his local popularity, Dr. Smith decided to advertise his product in country tabloids, and within a few years he had organized one of the most unique mail order businesses in the United States. Today, celebrities carry in it in their purses and they wouldn’t be caught without it. The Rosebud company is still owned and operated by the family of its originator, Dr. Smith.
