Claus Porto
Established 1887Founded in 1887 by Ferdinand Claus and Georges Schweder, two Germans living in Portugal, Claus Porto is a manufacturer of soaps, bath salts and aromatic candles. In 1908 Achilles de Brito, who has been part of the Claus & Schweder business since 1903, becomes a business partner. In 1924 Brito takes over the business. He renamed the company Ach. Brito, but kept the Claus Porto brand alive.
In 1936, Claus Porto launches a series of men’s shaving products: Musgo Real. The iconic Musgo Real soap on a rope is something every gentleman should have.
Trivia:
* in 1953 Ach. Brito opens its own lithography studio, bringing packaging design in house. Claus Porto’s full production process, from manufacturing to packaging design, is now handled within the company.
