Datejust (1945)

Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London as Wilsdorf and Davis, Rolex SA is a Swiss luxury watchmaker. In 1915 the company name Rolex was registered and in 1919 Rolex moved its operations to Geneva, Switzerland. In its long history of innovative and successful watch designs, Rolex had many firsts including being the first company to offer a wristwatch with an automatically changing date function: the iconic Datejust.

Launched in 1945, the original Rolex Datejust was launched with a case size of 36mm and featured a fluted bezel and a signature Jubilee bracelet (as pictured above). In 1954, Rolex added the cyclops lens. In 2009, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust II was released with a case size of 41mm diameter.
