Cartier
Cartier Santos (1906), Louis CartierFounded in 1847, when Louis-Francois Cartier took over the jewelry workshop of Adolphe Picard, Société Cartier is a manufacturer of jewelry and watches. Cartier took an interest in watchmaking quite early. Helped by Edmond Jaeger, Cartier created the first ladies’ wristwatches in 1888.
Introcuced in 1904, the iconic Cartier Santos was one of the first modern wrist watches for men – for pilots to be precise. It was designed for Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who was looking for a watch that was more suitable for flying than his pocket watch. To this day, it still is one of the prettiest watches ever made.
