Callaway Golf
Established 1982Founded in 1982 by textile mogul Ely Callaway Jr., Callaway Golf Company is a leading manufacturer of golf equipment. Callaway was an avid golf player, who played with clubs by Hickory Sticks. In 1982, Callaway bought half of Hickory Sticks. In 1984, Callaway bought the other half and eventually changed the company’s name to Callaway Golf in 1988.
Launched in 1991, the Big Bertha is Callaway’s most iconic club. Its unique shape, large size and wide body increased distance and accuracy of off-center hits. It was an instant hit among golfers (pun intended).
