Founded in 1915 by Willis Carrier, Carrier is the largest manufacturer and distributor of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems in the world. In 1902 Willis Carrier invented modern air conditioning, and by 1915 he managed to raise sufficient funds to start the Carrier Engineering Corporation. In the 1950s Carrier successfully marketed their air conditioners to the residential market, which led to formerly sparsely populated areas (such as the American Southwest) becoming home to lively suburbs.
