Riddell

Established 1929

Founded in 1929 by John Tate Riddell, Riddell is an American company specializing in sports equipment for American football, mostly known for its helmet technology and innovation. In 1939, Riddell invented the first ever plastic suspension helmet. In the 1980s, Riddell launched the now iconic VSR4 helmet with its circular ear hole, clean face mask lines and perfectly rounded dome. Riddell’s main competitor, Schutt Sports, filed for bankruptcy in 2010 after a series of lawsuits for patent-infringement.
