Nilfisk
Established 1906Founded in Denmark in 1906 by Peder Andersen Fisker and Hans Marius Nielsen, Nilfisk originally produced electrical engines for ventilators, kitchen elevators and other appliances. The very first Nilfisk vacuum cleaner, which was also the first electric vacuum cleaner in Europe, was introduced in 1910. It weighed 17.5 kilos and was quite expensive.
After World War II, when life settled down, modern commodities came to be in great demand. Owning a Nilfisk vacuum cleaner soon became a symbol of middle class life style – like owning a car. For generations the name Nilfisk has been more or less synonymous with a vacuum cleaner. And they always kept to the original design – obviously updated to modern standards. The Nilfisk GM80, which is still available today, weighs a lot less than the original and grew out to become a true icon. No bells, no whistles, it just does the job perfectly.
