Shell Chair CH07 (1963), Hans J. Wegner

Hans Wegner (1914-2007) was a famous Danish furniture designer, who contributed to the popularity of mid-century Danish design. He designed over 500 different chairs, many of which have become real design icons.

Designed in 1963 and manufactured by Carl Hansen, the three-legged Shell Chair CH07 wasn’t an instant success. Some loved the avantgarde design of Wegner’s lounge chair, others were reluctant to accept the chair’s bold and different design. When the chair was reintroduced in 1998 it immediately won broad public appeal as well as several design awards.
