Super Soaker (1982), Lonnie Johnson

Invented in 1982 by Lonnie Johnson, the Super Soaker is a recreational water gun that has more power, range and accuracy than a conventional squirt gun. Launched in 1989 by Larami, the first Super Soaker was originally called the Power Drencher. The original mid-size weapon, the SS50, was the best-selling model and has become a cultural icon. It was nominated for the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2015. The Super Soaker is currently produced by Hasbro under the Nerf brand.

Trivia:
* inventor Lonnie Johnson was in fact a real rocket scientist who was working on a heat pump system. When he tested it in his bathroom, a powerful stream shot from his prototype. He immediately realized that this could make a great water gun.
