Chanel Suit (1954)Founded in 1909 by Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel as a millinery shop on the ground floor of her lover’s flat, Chanel is a high fashion house that specializes in haute couture and ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods and fashion accessories. Chanel revolutionized fashion by replacing corset-silhouettes with garments that were functional and at the same time flattering to the woman’s figure. Her little black dress, the perfume No.5 and the 2.55 handbag will also feature on Wikiconic.
Developed in 1910, and brought to perfection in 1954, the Chanel Suit is one of fashion’s chicest and most revolutionary pieces. Inspired by menswear, straight and fluid, the Chanel Suit was intended to liberate women from the wasp-waisted silhouette of the Fifties. Providing absolute freedom of movement, this epitome of fashion has been worn by women such as Princess Diana and Jackie Kennedy.
